Where do I get those shirts?
My book cover project: 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?'
novel cover |
For my book cover project I've chosen the 1968 science fiction novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" by Philip K. Dick. The story centers around an agent, Rick Deckard, who is a bounty hunter seeking out human-like androids (called replicants in the book) hiding within society in a post-apocalyptic San-Francisco. The issue with Replicants is their lack of empathy and thus often callous interactions with living organisms despite human-level intelligence. Deckards job title is Blade Runner and he is responsible for "retiring"(killing) the replicants he hunts. Many might not know that this book was the basis for the 1982 Ridley Scott film "Blade Runner" which I adore. If you haven't experienced it, I implore you to do so for your own sake! I'm currently still researching the book/other assets and will post my direction as I progress.

Strong advertisments and Edge
For my next project I've chosen the video gaming magazine, Edge, as my company to generate an Ad for. I've found some good examples of advertisements in the form of their magazine covers. The covers tend to serve a duel purpose: they are not only attempting to attract readers toward the magazine itself, but also to a particular franchise and/or video game that is featured on the front cover. In my opinion, few other companies execute this with as much style and upstanding design sensibilities as Edge does. I've chosen a couple covers to post here to show a small sampling of what they're capable of. I'm fairly certain I'll be utilizing the covers in my project to some extent, though that will be a later matter to address.

My Mood Board
What's up! My name is Roger Bach, in case you're unaware. I'm conducting this blog (at least, initially) to fulfill a Graphic Design class project. Speaking of which, I have a photo of my first piece of homework for the class featured below. It's my "mood board" and its intended to convey my personality and general vibe. Check it out and -if you are planning on following the blog- get ready to learn more about me and my efforts this semester. Who knows, you might learn something interesting along the way...
